In my research, I use techniques from operations
research, agent-based modeling, and physics-based simulation to better understand the relationships
between the built environment and its user-base. Infrastructure often involves shared systems that serve multiple users simultaneously
such as water distribution systems, transportation networks, and the power grid.
From the multi-agent perspective, the interactions, conflicts, and compromises
among these users largely govern the structure of the associated infrastructure
that emerges over time. Conversely, the infrastructure that emerges also constrains
and enables interactions among its users.
